Troubleshooting Skills-Based Treatment (SBT) Programs

Tips, Troubleshooting, & Best Practices for utilizing SBT in Hi Rasmus

Best Tips for SBT Programming

  • Do not adjust the PLT and never change the workflow of the SBT program template. Modifying these can cause unintended behavior in the program.
  • Grey reinforcement can be set up; however, it will not be randomized.
  • FCR setup:
    • You can use one simple FCR.
    • The cFCR can be deleted or placed on hold if not needed.
  • Many organizations use the target behavior as the target name.
    • Example:
      • Instead of sFCR, rename it to “My Way”.
  • CAB setup options:
    • You may list the CAB behavior directly in the branch name.
      • As the learner progresses and behavior becomes more complex, add phase change lines.
    • Alternatively, set CAB to “Shaping” and explicitly target/list each behavior within the CAB.

Common Issues & Questions

1. Mode Changes (Easy → Normal) Don’t Change Ratios

Issue:
When switching modes (e.g., Easy to Normal), users do not see a difference in the ratio.

Solution:

  • Challenging mode reduces the likelihood of shorter chains, making them less frequent.
  • Users can skip chains until a longer or shorter chain option appears, if desired.

2. SBT Targets Are Not Randomizing

Issue:
SBT targets are not randomizing as expected.

Solution:

  • There are multiple targets set as “Working On.”
  • Ensure only the appropriate targets are active.

3. CAB Branches Not Appearing in Sessions Issue:
CAB branches or steps are not showing up during sessions or data collection.

Solution:

  • The target must be set up as a CAB branch target type.
  • CAB targets cannot be set as “Shaping” (unlike FCR targets).

4. Previously Mastered CAB Steps Not Pulling In Issue:

Previously mastered CAB steps do not appear when left as mastered (not closed).

Solution:

  • CAB was created correctly as a branch, but each step was added as a separate target.
  • This causes reinforcement rotation (RR) on individual targets, preventing access to all previously mastered CAB steps.

5. Closed Targets Still Appearing in SBT Programs Issue:

A target continues to appear after being manually closed.

Solution:

  • The program or workflow may have been customized.
  • Do not customize the SBT template or workflow, as this can override expected behavior.
