Utilizing Generative AI Text Fields in Session Notes

Using a generative text field in session notes helps providers more efficiently and accurately summarize a session.

💡 We recommend reading through this entire article before you begin using the generative text fields in your notes so you don't miss out on any tips or tricks!

What is a Generative Text Field and How does it Work?

Adding a generative text field to a session note template will automatically summarize a session based on the provided instructions and parameters, eliminating the need to input all session summary information manually.

We use AI to look at all of the information collected within a session such as:

  • Names of the programs run
  • Names of targets run
  • Number of observations or occurrences recorded for a target
  • Tags associated with programs
  • Target Data such as:
    • Prompt levels selected
    • Correct vs. Incorrect Responses
    • Success Rate

You can prompt the text field to include as much or as little information as you prefer and users can edit the response that is generated.

Adding a Generative Text Field to a Session Note Template

Using a generative text field in your notes is optional and must be set up by a Manager level user. To add a generative text field to a session note template:

1. From the left hand navigation menu select [Settings] >> [Templates] >> [Notes]

5. From the [Field Type] drop down select [Generative Text]

6. In the [GenerativeAI Instructions] field, instruct the AI on your desired output summary of the session. Click Here for more tips on writing these instructions.

7. Check the box for [Required Field] if you would like the session summary to be required. If not a user is able to delete the summary and save the note with no summary.

8. Check the box to [Save to field library] if you would like this field to be available for use in other templates or within activities reporting.

9. Select [Save]

When a Generative Text field is used within a session note template, the user completing the note template will have to check a box acknowledging they have reviewed the AI fields for accuracy

Writing a Generative Text Instructions Prompt

Before you start writing out your instructions keep these tips in mind:

  • The fewer instructions you give, more information will generate in the summary. If you write "give me a summary of the session" you'll get all information about every single program and target run in a lengthy summary.
  • Be as specific as possible!
    • Constraints like word count, format, and topic can help keep the output on track!
    • You can specify the types of programs, ask it to group programs by their tags or even the tone you want the summary to be written in.
  • Clarity is Key! The more precise your prompt the more likely you are to get your desired out put.
  • Test your output! We highly recommend creating a test note template with a generative text field and running some test sessions to see exactly how your field generates an output. Then you can tweak further from there!

Examples of Generative Text Instructions Prompts

Check out some examples of how you can format your instructions:

Example Instructions Example Output
Specify the exact number of occurrences of a tantrum behavior within the session.  The output should be in the format of X occurrences of Tantrum Behavior. X Occurrences of Tantrum Behavior

There are two parts to the session summary. Write it in a professional language.

Part 1: Write a short session summary in 3-5 sentences based on the session data without any line-breaks. Exclude all programs tagged "Bx" (behavior-reduction programs).

Part 2: In a new paragraph, provide a very short summary (2-3 sentences) of behaviors addressed and observed during the session (only programs tagged "Bx"). If any behaviors were observed then focus the summary on the behaviors observed. Otherwise write a very brief summary on which behaviors were addressed and state that none were observed during the session.

NEVER provide any data that was not provided. NEVER provide suggestions for treatment changes. ONLY provide an objective session summary.

During the session, the client successfully demonstrated eye contact with both known adults and same-aged peers, achieving independence in all observed instances within the "1.1 Eye Contact for Mand" program. The client showed challenges with the target "Go" within the Manding program, requiring prompts for all observed trials. Additionally, the client was able to identify the color "Purple" independently, but had difficulty with "Green," needing partial prompts for the majority of observations in the "Tacting Colors" program.

In regards to behaviors, incidences of "Biting" and "Tantrum" were observed, with the latter occurring twice during the session. There were no observations of "Elopement" or "Hitting," although these behaviors were part of the addressed behavior reduction program.
